January – The Month of Many Events

I am so happy to come here once again to present diploma to 1,026 graduates of the Svay Rieng University. I am so glad that we are meeting in a good environment and in the month of January, the month that we liberated our land from the genocidal regime of Pol Pot. This month, for me, also noted with many events. Firstly, I got married in January; secondly, we liberated the country and thirdly, my premiership started in this month too. I also have my eldest grandson’s birthday in this month. We also have this graduation and diploma presenting ceremony in January. I was in Tbong Khom to preside over the provincial infrastructural development.

It is tremendously a great pleasure for my wife and I as well as other leaders to meet you – handicap soldiers, families, teachers and Buddhist monks again today. Please allow me to excuse myself for being absent on 7 March 2012, when you organized the inauguration ceremony of a temple in your Buddhist monastery here. It was because I could not leave my late father then as he was in critical health condition. I had to ask HE Say Chhum, Vice President of the Senate, and HE Chea Sophara, Minister of Rural Development, to represent me in that very important religious ceremony.

Selected Extempore Comments at the Graduation and Diploma Presenting Ceremony of the Asia-Europe University [Unofficial Translation]

I am so happy today to be able to come preside over the graduation of 1,823 students of the Asia-Europe University in the early part of the Year of Horse of the Buddhist Year of 2558. It is a good thing to present diploma at the start of a New Year like this. I listened to the report of the Asia-Europe University (AEU) rector, Duong Lieng, concerning the progress made by the University. First started as a non-governmental organization in area of education, the University has now a 15-storey building of its own.
