  • The authors’ conversations with Hun Sen, his wife Bun Rany, older brother Hun Neng, and other family members, provide rare glimpses into the private world of the strongman and help explain the evolution of the man. Through a detailed account of his childhood in rural Cambodia, they traced his days as a pagoda boy, his life as a teenaged Khmer Rouge fighter, his rapid rise to battalion commander, and his disillusionment with Pol Pot’s inhuman policy to starve, torture and kill 1.7 million innocent people.
  • Through lengthy and sometimes passionate conversations with Hun Sen and his wife, the authors have pieced together the story of their troubled romance during their early years as Khmer Rouge cadres, and how the high command tried to stop their marriage.
